In large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugars. Add eggs, one at a time; beat well. Add vanilla. In separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture. Stir in chocolate chips.
Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets.
Bake at 375 degrees for 9 to 11 minutes. Transfer to wire cooling racks.
